Fire and Emergency Medical Care

Clemson University maintains its own Fire Department and provides fire, paramedic, and ambulance services to both the Main Campus and the City of Clemson. Satellite Facilities (i.e. those not on the main campus) are covered by their local jurisdictions.

On the Main Campus, all fire services, including the paramedics and the ambulance, are dispatched by the Department of Public Safety, and can be requested by calling 911.

EHS offers a variety of non-emergency services. Fire safety inspections, and Life Safety consultations are available. Fire Extinguisher inspection and service is handled by the University Fire Department.

OSHA’s portable fire extinguisher standard for general industry (29 CFR 1910.157) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) set forth requirements for the provision, maintenance, and use of portable fire extinguishers. Employees who have access to fire extinguishers are required to have annual training on fire extinguisher use. This training is offered free of charge by Human Resources, and may be requested by calling 656-2726.

All foyers, stair landings and hallways will be kept clear of unauthorized items such as furniture, curtains, bicycles and storage containers. No item may be placed in such a way that emergency evacuation of the building is impeded.
Hallway and stairwell doors provide a critical barrier to the spread of smoke and heat. These doors may not be propped or blocked open at any time.
