Work Injury/Illness Protocol

Immediately after a work injury/illness requiring medical treatment, the supervisor must call CompEndium Services at 877-709-2667 to report the injury. Do not call for minor injuries that does not require medical treatment. Keep record of minor injuries in the department.

The supervisor will give his/her name and employer’s name and a Medical Manager Nurse will take the call and ask the name of the injured employee and specific questions about the accident.

The department no long has to complete the Employer's First Report of Injury form.

CompEndium will assist the supervisor and injured employee in selecting a physician and scheduling an appointment or will direct the injured employee to an Emergency Room (ER). Clemson University campus employees will be directed to Redfern Health Center. CompEndium will direct off-campus employees to an approved medical facility.

The treating physician will call CompEndium before the injured employee leaves the facility to receive authorization for additional treatment and/or referrals. Immediately following, the Medical Manager Nurse will call the supervisor with a report on the status of the employee's condition and work status.

The physician will fax report/case notes to CompEndium within 24 hours after employee is treated.

THERE IS NO COVERAGE FOR CLAIMS UNLESS REPORTED BY THE SUPERVISOR BEFORE MEDICAL TREATMENT IS RECEIVED.
