Safe Purchasing
Prior consideration must be given to the safety requirements for requisitioned items, including space, floor loading, electrical needs, safe use, storage, and disposal of materials. This should be addressed to University Facilities, the purchasing agent, and EHS.
Note that radioisotopes may be ordered only with the explicit permission of the Radiation Safety Officer. Acquisition of hazardous materials, e.g., toxic chemicals and carcinogens, requires notification of EHS.
Purchase of chemical fume hoods, Biological Safety Cabinets, or other similar ventilation devices requires both EHS and University Facilities approval. Notify these departments prior to purchasing a chemical fume hood, biosafety cabinet, or similar ventilation device.
